Penman Antique Fairs History

Caroline Penman

Caroline Penman has been a dealer from the age of 18, and a fair organiser from 23.

She started the Ardingly and Shepton Mallet fairs along with many more open air or boot fairs before moving to the standfitted London fairs, with the National Collectors Fair, West London, Kensington, City of London. Brighton came into the portfoli in 1982 and Chelsea Fair was taken over in 1984. Then Chester was launched in 1989, and Petersfield taken over in 1994. A round of Art Fairs was started in 1996, of which the Chelsea Art Fair has continued successfully. Recent additions have come and gone, but can always be revived when the time is right.

Barbara Bell has been at Caroline's side since 1989, providing stalwart backup. She was joined on a part-time basis by Ben Cooper in 2009. Ben adds younger blood to the team, and as an organiser of fairs himself, knows exactly what is needed.

However, who knows what is needed for the future...?
